The proposed solution is for the whole of Crawford Road from the intersection of Alexandra Road to Rongotai Road.
The impacts on bus stops, intersections, pedestrian crossings and driveways will be detailed in the next stage of design and available for feedback in November.
The uphill kerbside bike lane improves safety for people on bikes and encourages less confident riders to use the route. The downhill sharrow markings increase driver awareness of people on bikes.
Current footpath width retained on east side of road
Sections of footpath on the western side may need to be removed
Traffic lanes increased in width from 3.6m to 3.9m
The existing flush median is removed over the majority of the road
Approximately 43 parking spaces removed from west side of the road
Parking retained on east side
Likely uptake by people on bikes: Moderate to high increase
In 2016 – following community open days, discussions with local residents and online feedback – Councillors confirmed the routes and roads that would be used to develop better biking connections.Read more
