18 August 2019 Slip lane permanent closure

The left-turning slip lane on Cobham Drive, adjacent to St Patrick’s College at the Evans Bay Parade intersection, is being closed to traffic permanently following a three-month trial earlier this year.

Starting on Sunday 18 August, the work will be completed over three consecutive nights. It includes moving two signal poles and installing a new signal pole to make the left-hand turn at the lights easier for buses. Contractors will start by excavating the area of the slip lane in preparation for laying a new kerb.

This change will make things safer and easier for pedestrians and people on bikes crossing Cobham Drive to or from the Evans Bay Parade two-way bike path. The existing signalised crossing will have an added facility for bikes. Drivers can still turn left into Evans Bay Parade at the traffic lights.

2 April 2019: Slip lane trial closure starts More Less

The left-turning slip lane from Cobham Drive into Evans Bay Parade has been closed to vehicles with a small kerb and artificial grass, for a three-month trial in conjunction with the NZ Transport Agency.

We're keen to make this intersection safer for people walking and biking. The trial will test whether there is any effect on traffic on Cobham Drive.

Drivers can still turn left into Evans Bay Parade at the traffic lights.

13 December 2018: Construction under way More Less

Contractors will start on the section between Cobham Drive and Kilbirnie Crescent, at the Cobham Drive end, from 13 December. Over the next two months, the focus will be to get as much done as possible near St Patrick's College during the school holidays.
