Constable Street has been considered in two sections, Riddiford Street to Coromandel Street and Coromandel Street to Alexandra Road. Both sections have two options each.
The impacts on bus stops, intersections, pedestrian crossings and driveways will be detailed in the next stage of design and available for feedback in November.
The uphill kerbside bike lane improves safety for people on bikes and encourages less confident riders to use the route. The downhill sharrow markings increase driver awareness of people on bikes. This option has a higher cost than Option B, however the likely uptake by people on bikes is similar.
Approximately 54 parking spaces removed on the northern side of the road
Footpath reduced in width from 2.4m to 2.0m on both sides
Vehicle lanes width increases from 3.0m to 3.2m
Likely uptake by people on bikes: Low to moderate increase
Sharrow markings increase driver awareness of people on bikes, but unlikely to encourage less confident riders to use the route. This option retains more parking than Option A. This option has a lower cost than Option A, however the likely uptake by people on bikes is similar.
No changes to parking
Footpath reduced in width from 2.4m to 2.0m width on both sides
Vehicle lanes width increases from 3.0m to 3.1m
Likely uptake by people on bikes: Low increase
