We're making it safer and easier for people who ride bikes

This is one of several projects under way, or starting soon in this area, which will together provide safer and easier biking connections to places including the Kilbirnie shops, Newtown, and the central city via Evans Bay Parade.

Between Onepu Road and Te Whiti Street, the new kerbside bike lanes (next to the footpath) on both sides of Rongotai Road will give better protection for people on bikes along this busy route, which has a lot of fast-moving traffic.

On the section between Crawford Road and Onepu Road, for now we will be making improvements at the Onepu Road intersection.

Work to install the bike lanes is expected to get under way near Tacy Street from 15 October. We expect the work to be finished during December. View the construction details

Councillors approved the project in March 2018 following community engagement last year.
