Traffic-side bike lane on each side of the road, parking retained on both sides
This was the only proposed option for Te Whiti Street. It provides a good connection on a quiet route between Rongotai Road and Coutts Street, and is a safer option for people on bikes than the existing bike lanes. The proposed design is appropriate for this quiet street with less traffic and low vehicle speeds.

The proposed solution is for the length of Te Whiti Street from the intersection at Rongotai Road to Coutts Street. Only one option is proposed.
The impacts on intersections, pedestrian crossings and driveways will be detailed in the next stage of design and available for feedback in November.
This improves on the existing layout by providing wider lanes for people on bikes and a car door buffer zone. Traffic speeds will reduce due to narrower traffic lanes and this will improve safety.
Traffic lanes reduced in width from 3.6m to 2.8m
No parking changes
No changes to footpath
Likely uptake by people on bikes: Moderate increase
