Explore the proposed changes in detail
Brooklyn Connections will improve safety and accessibility along Brooklyn Road, making it easier for people to walk, wheel, bike, catch the bus and travel between Brooklyn and the city. The project includes proposed upgrades to cycling facilities, pedestrian crossings, bus stops and road safety features, helping create a safer and more connected transport corridor for everyone.

- Bidwill Street and Brooklyn Road
- Brooklyn Road and Washington Avenue
- Ohiro Road
- Helen Street
Changes by area:
Cycling
- A permanent, protected uphill cycle lane will be installed near Nairn Street, continuing along Brooklyn Road and Ohiro Road to outside 159A Ohiro Road.
- Concrete separators will be installed to separate the cycle lane from traffic.
Public transport
- A new bus stop island will be installed at the intersection of Brooklyn Road and Bidwill Street.
Bus stops
- Bus stop 6716 (near Washington Avenue/Brooklyn Road) will be reduced from 21 metres to 15 metres.
Cycling
- Two short sections of shared path will become dedicated cycle lanes:
- The shared path will start outside 181 Brooklyn Road (13.2m) and extend to 187 Brooklyn road (11.1m)
Parking
- 8 parking spaces will be removed opposite 8–10 Brooklyn Terraces.
Cycling
- A new northbound (towards the city) cycle lane will be installed on the western side of Ohiro Road, from near the Todman Street/Cleveland Street intersection to the new pedestrian crossing just before Brooklyn Road.
Walking
- A new flush (road-level) zebra crossing will be installed outside 143 Ohiro Road.
Bus stops
- Bus stop 7718 (opposite Bretby Crescent) will be reduced from 25 metres to 15 metres.
- Bus stop 6719 (outside 185 Ohiro Road) will be removed.
- Bus stop 6718 (currently outside 159A Ohiro Road) will be relocated to outside 171 Ohiro Road.
Parking
- 4 parking spaces will be removed on the southbound side near 169–175 Ohiro Road.
- 20 parking spaces will be removed on the northbound side near 168 Ohiro Road.
- 5 parking spaces will be removed north of Tanera Crescent.
Parking
To offset parking removed on Brooklyn Road and Ohiro Road:
- Existing parking will be reconfigured from 15 parallel spaces to 33 angled spaces.
- This provides a net gain of 18 parking spaces on Helen Street.
Changes by different street users:
Southbound (uphill)
A permanent uphill cycle lane will be installed on Brooklyn Road, from the Nairn Street intersection to 159A Ohiro Road.
Northbound (towards the city)
A new permanent cycle lane will be installed on the western side of Ohiro Road, from near the Todman Street/Cleveland Street intersection to a new pedestrian crossing just before Brooklyn Road.
Shared path changes
Two short sections of shared path will become dedicated cycle lanes and a separate footpath:
- Outside 21 Brooklyn Road (13.2 metres)
- Outside 25 Brooklyn Road (11.1 metres)
- The shared path next to bus stop 6716 (near Washington Avenue/Brooklyn Road) will be improved and widened.
A new pedestrian crossing will be installed outside 143 Ohiro Road, making it safer and easier to cross the road and access bus stops and local destinations.
Shared path changes
Two short sections of shared path will become dedicated cycle lanes and a separate footpath:
- Outside 21 Brooklyn Road (13.2 metres)
- Outside 25 Brooklyn Road (11.1 metres)
- The shared path next to bus stop 6716 (near Washington Avenue/Brooklyn Road) will be improved and widened
To improve bus operations and support the new road layout:
- Bus stop 6716 (near Washington Avenue/Brooklyn Road) will be reduced from 21 metres to 15 metres.
- Bus stop 7718 (opposite Bretby Crescent) will be reduced from 25 metres to 15 metres.
- Bus stop 6719 (outside 185 Ohiro Road) will be removed.
- Bus stop 6718 (currently outside 159A Ohiro Road) will be relocated to outside 171 Ohiro Road.
Parking changes
To create space for safer road layouts:
- 37 on-street parking spaces will be permanently removed across the project area:
- Brooklyn Road – 8 spaces
- Ohiro Road – 24 spaces
- Tanera Crescent – 5 spaces
- Helen Street will be reconfigured from 15 parallel parks to 33 angled parks, providing 18 additional parking spaces.
